The Defense of SportsCenter

SportsCenter may be focusing more on the 'drama' indeed. But it is not ESPN's fault; it is the consumer's fault. With the hustle and bustle of the average person's schedule these days, it seems harder and harder to find time for the sports we love. We live in a time where most people have to choose between the NHL and NBA because of their overlapping seasons. And with the insane length of virtually all professional sport seasons (sans football), each game has such a significantly small value.

With these points considered, the average fan must allot their tiny
slice of time to what they feel is the most pertinent and engaging information. This is where the 'drama' factor comes in. I scarcely have the time to develop a sincere interest in the NBA. I could not tell you the name of the small forward for the Washington Wizards. Nor the number of Luke Walton.

But I do know who LeBron James is. I know that LeBron James is a free agent tied to NBA superpower Wes Worldwide, and that he will command the max cap allowed for a player at whatever team he chooses. I know this because SportsCenter covers this nonstop. And they do this because there are people, like me, who don't want to invest their constricted free-time into an 82 game season (1230 games league-wide) where each game accounts for a measly 1.2% of the team's overall season (.0008% of the season league-wide).

I don't want to hear who had a triple double. I don't want to hear that Dwight Howard fouled out with 3:29 left in a tie game.

I want to hear that Gilbert Arenas brought a firearm into the locker room. I want to hear this... because this is all I have time to care about.

  1. Sportscenter has dropped off in my humble opinion. As a huge hockey fan, they have the WORST coverage ever. Inless, Sydney Crosby(a kitten just died b/c i spoke the queers name) or Alexader Ovechkin is being talked about, they hardly mention the sport at all. I know due to the lockout, this hurt the NHL. Still, that's pathetic. And Matthew Barnaby is the best choice they could get? Only enhances the joke.

Which brings me to the coverage of the past Stanley Cup Finals. The Chicago Blackhawks were the better team and won fair and square. But isn't news reporting station supposed to be "biased"? As a Flyers fan it was nearly impossible to watch anything besides the games themselves with the cocksucking lovefest ESPN, Barnaby, and VERSUS did not even attempt to hide. I wish they'd try to pretend they even care about the sport. That's one take on it.

  2. I like the take but I think you mean "unbiased" which they certainly were not. I despise Barnaby as well, not only as a Flyers fa,n but he was terrible as an analyst. The coverage was gutwrenching to watch.

As far as the queer and Ovi your dead on, if those two decided to play in Russia I think ESPN would drop hockey all together.
