Adrian Peterson is an absolute beast. His carry totals are monstrous; the man averaged 300+ carries per season. He plays behind one of the best offensive lines in the league. His yardage numbers are always ridiculous, averaging 97 yards rushing per game over his career. Despite his bruising, battering ram running style, Peterson has managed to only miss two games in his three seasons.
His reception totals saw a significant boost last year, partly thanks to timeless wonder Brett Favre: finishing with 43 receptions for 435 yds. He grinded out nearly 1,400 yards rushing and a league-leading 18 rushing TDs in 2010. He's the perfect blend of power and speed and has the ability to score in any area of the field. Oh and he's still only 25 years old.
The only knocks on him are his upright running style, which leave him exposed, as well as his tendency to put the ball on the ground. But fumbles aren't as big of an issue in the fantasy realm of football, and Peterson tends to dish out more punishment that he receives, so I wouldn't count on him getting injured. Don't worry about Favre coming back. He's a stud with or without him.
Simply put, Adrian Peterson is the only player you should even consider taking with the 2nd pick, and be thankful that Pick 1 made your decision so easy.
- Projections: 1,600 yards rushing; 14 TDs; 40 receptions; 400 yards receiving
Peterson is a monster and as you mentioned the gargantuan offensive line in front of him only makes his services more attractive. One of the things that should benefit Peterson's health alot is the fact that he has stopped looking to punish defenders as much as in the past and will go out of bounds to avoid unnecessary contact.
ReplyDeleteHis funmble woes were quite evident in the NFC Championship game against the Saints but this is a minimal worry for fantasy owners.
Favre not coming back may have a negative effect on Peterson's receptions but could lead to a boost in yards. Once again nothing to worry about by taking Peterson here. He's a horse and should perform as such. I'd say your projections are right in line with what he should finish 2010 with.
